Beating the break-up blues

So things were rosy…until you get dumped. Things seemed perfect and all of a sudden it all comes crumbling down around you. Maybe you were growing apart, maybe he was a little too fond of his secretary, who knows. Either way, a break-up can be a very traumatic time. However, with some simple steps you can get through this and come out ready for the new, sexy single life ahead of you.

Step 1: Cry your little heart out.

Even though you know you can survive this, now is not the time to be sensible. Its impossible at this stage to be rational so just let out your emotion. Wallow in it. Get out the soppy romantic novels and movies, lock yourself in your room, get out the photos of you two together and just cry. Get your friends on the phone to listen to your wining and sobbing or write your deepest thoughts and emotions down in a personal diary. It’s important to get out all these feelings even if it hurts doing so. It’s the best therapy.

Step 2: Get rid of him!

Do not, under any circumstances call him – or take his calls. Unless you are certain it is the right thing for you, do not take him back or even think about taking him back. Avoid him like the plague. Burn, or at least pack away, everything that reminds you of him. Try emotional cleansing too and write down all his bad qualities to stop you remembering the good. Whenever you miss him just read the list!

Step 3: Keep yourself busy.

If you have free time, you have time to think about him. Don’t! Hang out with your mates; pick up extra shifts at work, anything to keep your mind off him. Do all the things you’ve wanted to do but never had the time like jewellery making or art. Take up a new sport or hobby. Go shopping for things you know he’ll hate and enjoy the fact that he’ll hate every moment of it!

Step 4: Give yourself a makeover!

It’s time to pamper yourself and what better way to do that than a makeover! Get a new haircut or hair colour. A manicure and pedicure is always nice and maybe a facial. Buy a sexy new party dress so he knows exactly what he’s missing! When you bump into him he’ll kick himself for letting such a babe go.

Step 5: Get back out there!

Your feeling strong, you look great, it’s time to get back in the dating game. There are plenty of available guys out there. However, beware of the rebound. Flirting is fine but make sure your heart has healed before jumping into a relationship.

These simple steps should help you realise that although break-ups are hard, there is a light at the end of the tunnel and you will get through it. Good luck!
